American Terrors

We the people...

I’m sorry can we get a revision on this?

We the cis, white, males of America,

Whose land we stole.

We wrote this document,

With no knowledge of our overbearing privilege,

We wrote this document,

To give us more rights,

The rest of y’all just roll with it.

We have no intentions in freeing y’all,

Until president, what #16.

And Abigail that thing about women you said,

Yeah, sorry hun that went right over my head

Also if you’re thinking about moving here,

You can’t be fleeing a dangerous place.

Because this document will send you back,

Funny thing though,

We found America,

Not knowing how to use a map

“All men are created equal”

Words written while slaves are working their ass*s off

For these men to get the money

For them to write those words,

That don’t even make sense.

Now don’t forget,

Separate church and state.

Unless women want reproductive rights

Or LGBTQ+ people don't want to get burned at the stake.

Oh and it would never be complete

Unless we gave it flavor…

Having cis, white males,

To back up this document, cry over it later.

I think if you mix that all up,

You’ll end up with America.

A f*ing shit-show,

Where kids are taught how to handle police,

Before they can drive a f*ing car.

Where kids are taught how to handle an active shooter,

And police pick and choose,

Whether they want to handle a capital riot,

Or an “anarchist”, “agitator”, and “looter”.

Where indigenous people aren’t protected,

On their own land.

You raped them one by one,

Do you even notice the red hand?

Where you claim our neighbors are dangerous,

When you shot a kid playing,

On a “wall” you built

That's just a f*ing fence

But you won’t ever acknowledge it.

Won’t take a second before you point blame,

Away from this limited space,

That has freedom as its fame.

Kinda sad this poem isn’t over,

But when will it really end.

We can blame a virus on a race of people?

And play with these issues like it’s a trend.

We all have bad days

Trust me, I know that's true.

But murdering 8 people.

Is a whole ‘nother issue.

And I’ll scream for justice,

At the top of my lungs.

You may be silent,

But the cat ain't got my tongue.

So don’t go on about how hard it is to be white.

Because when you look me in the eyes,

You see millions of mothers cries,

Mourning their baby that unjustly died

And it's hard to walk this earth,

Wondering if the next twist or turn,

Will be my last,

Because hatred is rooted,

In my cold gruesome past.

And don’t just post a black square,

Raise your voice, get out of your chair,

Fight for something that you know isn’t fair.

And don't just sit there,

Claiming it's just something you can ignore.

While I’m home panicking,

Hoping they don't shoot down my door,

Hoping I don't become another hashtag,

Hoping I don’t become just “one more”

And this poem will never really end

Because blood stains american streets

Like grape juice on your bed sheet

You try to get it out

But it’s getting bigger

So it’s not just a spot anymore,

Maybe you will finally see the bigger picture.

What did I tell you,

This sh*t ain’t over.

The weather is getting warmer,

And their hearts are getting colder.

“But like racism ended in the 60’s”.

Then why the f*ck?

Have I seen Jim Crow slowly creep back,

In the past week.

Government ain’t even tryna hide this.

They could lynch one of us

And y’all would say,

“Awww such a cute trick”.

Honestly open your eyes,

See the hell we are living in,

This sh*t will be how I die.

The white supremacy ain’t even hiding.

They just changed their characters' skin.

They could be dressed in blue with a badge,

Or delivering a presidential speech,

In a 3-piece suit with a hearty laugh.

And don’t tell me to calm down,

Or to watch my language.

I'm tired of this sh*t.

Should be glad,

I haven’t burned it to the ground.

I’m tired of playing Mr.Nice Guy,

Censoring myself.

You came out to play,

Wouldn’t want to leave you

By yourself

Life,

Liberty,

And the Pursuit of Happiness.

A sentence to start a document

That instills fear into us,

And nothing less.

Dear America,

If you are the land of the free,

How come the only thing that can flourish?

Is a cis white man,

Or a buzzing bumblebee.

Why do you hate me so much,

So much every step I take is taken in fear?

Why do you hate me so much,

So much that every step I take,

I’m in tears?

You said you loved me

And that you sent your best regards.

But all you did was send me trauma

And left my heart in shards.

The facade is over,

So I can finally see,

What an absolute a**hole,

America turned out to be.

Hi I'm Joss,

I wrote this poem based on my experiences living in America and how scary it is to live here as an American because of issues rooted in our history.
