Leaving Me
I never knew you
but, I saw you
crying on the bus
I saw your face crumple
the tears drip
you eyes swell
I wanted to ask what was wrong
but I saw you bury your face
cover your head
hide your sadness from the world
I saw your name in the paper
another name, face, story
reduced to words telling me where you went
not here
but there
I saw me in you
though I meant nothing to myself,
you meant everything to me
If only I had said hello
are you okay?
or even
Goodbye
saying it for real would hurt less
I could not save you from your yourself,
but you saved me from mine
