You have traveled around the sun for half a century

Your branches spindled and withered from age

Constantly looming down more of a dark aura

The mind twisted with deceit disguised as wisdom

A single sprout grew in your reign of shadow

Upon viewing it, your desire conjured

Carving the sweet words into the juvenile roots

Bending the impressionable mind into your cold hands

Slowly leering the path of destruction as leaves shriveled

Eventually leaving them to face their burden on their own

Half a century you’ve traveled

Known the concepts of morality

But yet you suck the soul out of that tiny seedling

And continue to grow on your own

While they’re left to pick up the pieces

The author's comments:

This piece is made to veil the concept of pedophilia. I was targeted by my father during my childhood and adolescent years, and another middle-aged man was interested in me when I was 16. I believe many minors have dealt with some kind of predator, and it deserves to be talked about rather than ignored.
