Triathlon
What is the point of running a triathlon?
the answer will vary based on who you ask.
Some might say it’s to travel
seeing the Parthenon in Athens
searching for the loch-ness monster in Scotland
swimming in the bright cerulean blue of the pacific
Others will say it’s for what you learn on the way
the life lessons that stick by our side
the languages we can learn
More will say it’s for who you get to meet
your first-grade crush
those you pass on a busy street
people you will invite to your wedding
Others will say it’s about the experiences you get to have
laughs shared over chocolate chip pancakes
conversations walking along the beach
the feeling sweeping over you when a cold front rolls in
Most will believe, but never admit, it’s about the material things you acquire
the perpetuation of the value of money
the jewelry you can buy
how many dollars are in your bank account
So what is the point of running this triathlon
this marathon of life
we could dream about running a triathlon a million times
yet we will never know why we do it
