Look Ahead But Close Your Eyes
Look ahead but close your eyes, the view is blurred from your Hand with the Reflecting Sphere
Couldn’t face the face in the water, and the crows feet that stretched from ear to ear
I don’t notice when the sun moves but it still pours through my window,
a memory in the present, persistent*
I don't like to think about what it’d all mean, years from now,
but sometimes i get so nervous i need to plan for a trip i’ll never go on, when i never skip town
i’ll never get used to the growing pains
a forever rotting body, like Europe after the Rain
One day i’ll never get to go home again
the doors a different color now and i’ll just pass by
a sad old memory of the rest of my life
one day i’ll get to be alone, Everywhere at the End of Time
going to bed Without Hope
to the tune of Ingres’s violin
i recall things from my memory
The Treachery of Images in my brain
Pavlov and obedient the same routines for years.
the sun dial casting shadows on my fears.
so jet-set to leave this sanctuary, emotionally ambivalent, so distant, so dear
i don’t like listening to the radio, i never know what song is coming next
i feel sick and my hair is black and grey like the Guernica
a surreal work of art you can’t quite look away from, a book devoid of text
*The Persistence of Memory

This poem is about memory and time travel. The future scares me, so I close my eyes and live in memory and look ahead with my eyes closed.
