Hurrying into an Accident
I wake up with a jolt
I am catapulted from my deep slumber
Interrupted by my mother’s shrill screams
“You’re late! You’re late! You’re late!
I leap out of bed and sprint to my dresser
Grab a shirt, grab some pants
They will have to do
Get ready! Get ready! Get ready!
A toothbrush is violently grazed across my teeth
My backpack is filled with homework and pencils
I launch my self into the car and twist the key into the ignition
Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
I swirl the car backwards
And slam the accelerator with my foot
I quickly glance back and forth and take off
You’re late! You’re late! You’re late
Speed limits are optional
The town cop is not out this morning
I can make up precious time
Faster! Faster! Faster!
I reach the parking lot of school
Every spot is filled
I wipe around all the cars
Look! Look! Look!
CRUNNNCH
My bumper collides with the side of another car
I cannot believe my eyes
I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m dead.
Tears fill my eyes
I pull my car away from the scene
I slip my way into the school
If only I had known the pavement had been covered with
Ice! Ice! Ice!
