The Herd
Dotting the horizon,
grazing without a care,
the cows sit and stare
at the man riding over there
doing his rounds,
defending the herd.
On a warm summer’s night
they moo with delight,
gathered round the pond,
it is quite the sight.
The herd now moves,
meandering along,
searching for fresh flora
all together now
roaming the plains.
But life is not always pleasant
the herd is attacked by beasts
the weak and weary fall first
running with all their might
powered only by their fright.
Across the plains
through the trees
the herd runs along
away from the fear
away from the beasts
they only run.
Finally, escape
the herd may finally rest
until the next days
where they face more tests.
