Shadow
Did you ever feel so accompanied, that you felt alone?
How did you feel,
When something incredible happened and you had no one to tell?
How did you feel,
When something devastating happened, and you had no one to comfort you?
How did you feel,
When the one person to comfort you, was yourself?
How did you feel,
When it felt as if you couldn’t breathe?
Who was there for you?
Imagine you are a soda bottle.
You are full of bubbliness.
One day, something good or bad happens.
Yet, you can’t tell anyone because you are sealed.
You feel as though you can’t breathe,
You feel like no one is there for you.
But there are 7.8 billion people in the world.
And none of them can comfort you like your shadow can.
Someday, that bottle will explode.
You will feel 7.8 billion different emotions,
And have 5 thousand second thoughts.
That’s when you know you need a friend.
But, “Friends aren’t needed” and “Friends aren’t real.”
If friends aren’t
Needed
And
Real,
Then why is Shadow here?
Shadow,
My one true friend.
Only you catch the salty tears
That slowly roll down my cheeks,
Every day, you tell me how beautiful I am.
You show me how fascinating life is.
You show me the wonders of the universe.
Shadow,
I am yours,
And you are mine.
Forever, our lives shall be tethered.
Every day, I live with the certainty
That I am never frightened,
Because you are there with me.
Shadow,
Sometimes you stand shyly behind me.
Sometimes you stand as though you were avoiding me.
But I know in my heart, that you would never leave me,
And I’ll never leave you.
So, I ask,
How would you feel,
If the only person to comfort you, was your shadow?
How would you feel,
If the only person you could talk to was your shadow?
Shadows can be deceiving at times.
Some shadows are beautiful and kind.
Some shadows are extraordinary and wise.
The worst shadows are the ones that leave you feeling shattered and alone.
Not having a friend is like not having a shadow.
You don’t have anyone who has your back.
You don’t have anyone that will truly understand you.
You are not truly happy.
You are not truly living life.
You are just there.
Just a pawn in another chess game.
So, I ask you,
How did you feel,
When you had no one to turn to?
How did you feel,
When you saw everyone you love surrounding you,
Yet you felt as if you were living life on your own?
Did you ever feel so accompanied, that you felt alone?

First of all, thank you reader for reading my poem, "Shadow", it really means a lot to me! I wrote "Shadow" for my Creative Writing class. And I heard about this website and wanted to see who would actually be interested in my poetry. I will post more content soon. Thanks~♥
