Nothing Lasts Forever
The pouring rain,
A persistent patter,
stirs you to spread your wings.
This demoralizing downpour,
This brutal barrage beating down upon me,
Chills my core as I wait
While you sour through the sky with me out of sight.
I watch and wait for you
My hands an open home for you
To wipe the rain from your wings.
But I know I wait in vain
Because you have been waiting for the day
When you could finally fly away

I was inspired by the Maroon 5 song, "Nothing Lasts Forever," which speaks of a breakup and the pain of letting go. Whether it is a breakup between a couple or an end of a friendship, saying goodbye to someone is a pain that everyone is familiar with, especially if the other person does not seem to be as affected by the situation as you are. I wrote this poem inspired by this feeling.
