The Definition of Beauty
Don’t define beauty as the kind you see online
In the magazines and the tabloids
Where they boast about that hourglass shape
And give us examples of what we don’t have
I once saw this infomercial, where they changed this girl’s appearance
From eyes, lips, nose, to overall face
It made me open my cell phone camera
Only then I started to question myself, maybe it’s time for a change
I could tell you what this feels like
A heart that chips second by second
Not wanting my own clothes to be my size anymore
Realizing that maybe this smile isn’t as pretty as I thought
A photo may just be a photo
But when the media calls Gigi Hadid gorgeous
How do I fill the gap that makes me look like her
How do I make them call me beautiful too
It’s when I stare deeply into the mirror
Twenty-something minutes of small, dark eyes and too tan of skin
I honestly can’t change who I am
I want to be comfortable with what I see
Let us show them what we are made of, hearts they can never take away
On our journey to correcting the media, we must first know the truth
Define beauty as this;
It’s always gonna be you.
