"you may forget but let me tell you this someone in some future time will think of us" - sappho

with the aching skies and the deafening rain
she painted with heavy blues,
alone with the memories;
memories were all she had left,
memories were all that was keeping her alive,
because what was a life without those memories?
and so, she painted her lover’s favorite hue,
her favorite shade of blue;
she painted feverishly, nightly
with burning tears cascading
as memories were seared
and fates were sealed,
because they took her only lover away,
took the only girl she dared so loved
away.
all she could do was remember
how they ripped each other apart
and how they took her away
the girl crumpled onto the ground
with her collapsing heart
and cries so vehement
that the only thing she could do was drown in her blues
her navy’s, her sapphires,
and wait for her lover;
she was painting;
painting for a lover who was to never return,
painting for a girl who watched from the skies,
painting for her everything that left her with nothing

The author's comments:

poem is up to interpretation, but i had a very clear image while writing this; two wives ripped away from each other unfairly in the early 1800's. one wife paints blue nightly in hopes that her wife returns to her; blue was her wife's favorite color.
