Metamorphosis
“You’ll understand when you’re older”,
“Someday this will all be yours”.
Well, thanks so much for giving me a world,
Full of controversy and pain.
Thanks for the world that has been set ablaze,
And drowned in smoke.
Don’t you understand what you’ve left,
Is it a world full of violence, discrimination, and homophobia?
That the streets are painted in tears and buried under a layer of blood?
Don’t you understand that since I was a child,
A child in elementary school, I could see major problems in the world?
Problems that went unnoticed,
Or simply ignored?
But at the same time, thanks.
My generation can fix your problems,
Make that world a better place for everyone.
Make the world a safer place for future generations.
And maybe that world won’t be immediately perfect,
It takes time to mop the blood off the streets, and wipe tears from people’s eyes.
And I know that the scars from the past will still linger,
But my hope, my seeds of a dandelion blowing in the breeze,
Is that together, all of us can metamorphosize the world,
So that everyone feels that it is safe for them to be whoever they want to be.
