The Things We Miss
The excitement of a new school year,
The laughter at the senior breakfast on the first day of school,
The thrill of picking which drape picture we want in the yearbook,
Getting to leave assemblies early because "seniors go first,"
The tears on senior night,
The joy of Friday nights, cheering on the football team one last time,
The smiles on faces taking pictures in our matching Senior 2021 t-shirts,
The pride in earning a captain's position,
The bliss of receiving a cap and gown,
The pure sadness of walking down the hall one last time,
The amazement in the eyes of those younger than us as we walk the halls in our gowns as the class of 2021,
The hugs on graduation day,
Driving away with a happy heart from the memories of the best year of our lives.
The list goes on and on that includes the the things we miss.
We being the senior class of 2021.
The things we miss are not physical, but rather feelings.
The things we miss are things that should have become lifelong memories
But instead will never exist.
They will always be thoughts of what ifs,
The things we miss.

I was inspired to write this piece to bring to light what seniors are going through this year. We are overcome with sadness and loss this year. We long for a sense of normalcy.
