autumn rain

i sink my feet into the cool mud
it stains my dress and coats my toes
but i like the feeling of the soft ground beneath me
the earth, once so unyielding, made pliable by the autumn rain
something so fleeting, banished by the harsh sunlight
but still my clothes will never be white again
