Future
I gazed into my bathroom mirror
My eyes became fixed on their reflection like I was having a staring contest with myself
My pupils were black holes in the gray universe of my iris
I stared so long that my eyes went out of focus and I was staring at a blurred image of myself
As though the mirror had steam on it from long, hot shower
Although it felt like I was looking at myself through a cloud, I didn’t look away
I stared and stared and stared until the mirror became a crystal ball and I saw into the future
I saw my sister getting married to her boyfriend
I saw my parents living in a house they built on the lake just like they always dreamed
I saw my Nephew all grown up and majoring in english because he’s always been an amazing writer
I saw everyone I knew living a happy life
But I did not see myself
I searched everywhere until I realized, one cannot predict their own future
The universe is the ultimate decider of your fate
All you can decide is how happy you are with what the universe gives you
I blinked and refocused my eyes on my reflection
I scanned my face up and down and left to right
I had an important decision to make
Will I be happy?
