How to Become Popular
(what they say always goes)
wake up and pick out an outfit
that won’t make you look like the walking mess you are (don’t stand out)
tell your parents you don’t want breakfast (can’t get fat)
send your streaks that you don’t even like keeping
all the popular kids do it (have to fit in)
leave for school
not too early though (don’t be eager to get to school)
Find a popular kid to talk too
(even though they are fake and talk about you
behind your back
even though they make you look
stupid
even though they use to be your
best friend
They. Broke.You.
they made you believe
that you were actually special
that you actually matter
well you don’t
that’s just reality)
no matter what they say
it always goes
try to pay attention
in class (don’t be the “dumb blonde”)
GET OUT OF SCHOOL
leave the building that has shaped
you
by the comments people have made
by the teachers telling you
you can’t make it big
by everyone telling you aren’t enough
then you start to believe they are right
try to do something
with someone
anyone (don’t let people think you hang out with your parents)
DO NOT QUESTION,
do what they do
because they run the school
and if you aren’t liked by them
you aren’t liked by anyone
go home and try
try to not smell like alcohol
try to seem drunk
try not to break down
try not to show
that what they say always goes
tell your parents you are going to bed
go in the bathroom
take off all the makeup
until it’s just you
well whatever you are
crawl in bed
look at that picture
of you with your best friend
when you were four
innocent
you loved hanging out with your parents
you were eager to get to school
you didn’t care what they thought of you
you were enough
cry silently
because it’s all gone
your family fighting
school is a prison
you care about what they think
your best friend has a girlfriend
he isn’t “allowed” to hang out with you
go to sleep
dream of a better day
where what they say
never goes
