Coming of Age
Mother always said the same words,
“when you’re older”
I didn’t understand at the time..
I thought I had the wisdom of an elderly owl.
I thought I had thick skin.
Years later,
I sit at work,
waiting more and more tables.
I watch the news and read articles.
I witness wickedness and wealthy labels.
The world is a maddening,
full of haters and takers.
Mother was trying to aid my innocence,
As I continued to grow.
