Try Again
The room is small and compact
but it is enough.
A small spotless kitchen, marble countertop, a small grey sofa covered in pillows and blankets
Light grey covered walls, sharp blacks outlining the corners
Fake plants
dull yellow lights, only what is necessary
Widows peak outside to the rain-stained world, steam builds from the difference of temperature
The dirty buildings outside holding fluorescent signs in the sky
Bright blues, greens, oranges, and reds glow off the window from the outside world
into my sanctuary
A voice of velvety honey and a piano as smooth as silk captures the feel of the atmosphere
The words floating through the warm flowing air
Behind my feet a fleece blanket drags on the hardwood floor
My fingertips, burning on a ceramic cup of hot lemon ginger tea;
the kettle still steaming on the stove
The picture fades quickly, as if it were the steam
and I end up staring at the dull, lesson filled whiteboard
The thought was small and compact
But it was enough.

I tend to get lost in my own thoughts a lot and this is a place I go when it is all overwhelming. This happens during class when I space out, this is where I go. Sometimes there are people, sometimes it's just me and the rain.
