Self Harm
The anger gave her a blissful kiss on the lips.
The anger obliterated the small segment of sanity that had remained.
The anger whispered in her ear,
“destroy.”
Her hand gripped a smooth wooden handle, a claw hammer.
She felt the beat of her heart in her hands and so began the destruction of her only true home.
She was unaware of what was done.
Yet she remembers the ‘Thud!’ made by contact of the hammer and wall.
The damage could not be undone.
The crevices from past demolition, she’s still aware of.
As she saw the drywall and dust ease to the floor,
she wished she hadn’t destroyed once more.
Tears rolled down her warm, red cheeks, a bitter taste of salt.
She weeped and wondered why
irascibility annihilated her sanity.
Like a tsunami, her anger presented unexpected amounts of power.
