A Tragedy
I want to talk about Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as I.C.E.
I want to talk about how apparently their goal is to promote safety and security.
I want to talk about the Rio Grande Valley migrant facilities.
How they weren’t so safe and secure for the people I call family.
How I.C.E. crammed 88 men into a cell of 41 maximum capacity.
How children receiving an aluminum sheet as a blanket, could be considered luxury.
I want to talk about how families were separated so easily.
How those who separated them, claimed to be “compassionate, with loyalty.”
“They’re just doing their job,” they say.
But what about humanity?
This is a touchy subject for me because a family member was taken from me.
Have mercy on these families. All they’ve ever wanted it to feel content and free.

I made this poem from a certain perspective in hopes of grabbing the attention of the reader(s). Within my poem, I emphasized the mistreatment of families deemed as "illegal aliens" in the United States. I feel strongly on this subject, because hundreds of children have been separated from their parents thus far, having to wait weeks to months for reunification of their family. That in itself is a tragedy, including the mistreatment.
I hope that this perspective opens the minds of those who are misinformed or don't know much about the activity that has recently occured between I.C.E. and the separation of families.
