Gift Poem
You are the rental car filled with obnoxious laughter,
as our faces turn red gasping for air,
while our poor parents roll their eyes in the front
wishing for peace and quiet as they navigate the california roads,
distracted by our never ending giggles.
You are “quick” trips to target that turn into three hour adventures in T.J. Maxx,
The sound of hangers screeching upon the metal rods,
The endless racks seeming like a giant maze,
I roll my eyes and huff and puff as you go through each and every piece of clothing.
You are trips to taco bell
Dropping your card on the ground as you hand it to the cashier,
Driving into the post next to the window,
Always saying “ummmm” to start your order,
And taking the long way home because we’re both too scared to turn left out of the parking lot.
You are my nightlight,
The thing I can always count on to bring light to my life in even the darkest of days,
The person who has always had my best interests in mind,
And doubled as not only my sister but my best friend.
You are the gigantic window,
Hiding behind the couch from delivery guys,
People looking in seeing us dancing like fools,
Pretending the pink rubber ball was a basketball,
And passed out on the couch, friends on the tv screen.
You are the sister I got stuck with, and the bestfriend I chose,
I thank the world for blessing me with a built in forever friend,
For the experiences we have already shared,
And the ones yet to come.
