Spiraling Heartbeat

The temperature raises in mid August like my heartbeat
as the perfect white picket fence shakes
between friendship and a relationship,
a very fine line that shall not be crossed.
The triangle of you, she and I
spirals in my head like a long descending staircase
from a rooftop deck located in the heart of the Windy City.
