Dear Whoever
Dear Whoever
I hope you have a great day today
I hope that your favorite weather lasts the entire week,
And the song that makes you forget your problems
Plays when you need it most
I hope the person who flushes your cheeks crimson
Wants to hold your hand, too
Thinks your eyes are the brightest stars in the sky, too
Wants to spend all their days with you and only you, too
Dear Whoever,
I wish that goodness falls into your lap as often as the sun rises
Whether it be hitting every green light when you’re in a hurry,
Being startled by a butterfly,
Turning on the TV because you’re bored and stumbling upon your favorite Disney movie
that takes you back to simple days
Cause today’s days can be hard
You have duties like a servant and you feel like you have to bow to every prince and princess and king and queen in the country, even the jesters for God’s sake
But I have a duty for you
Be your own royalty
Rule your own kingdom
Serve only You.
Dear You,
Wear your crown, made of your dreams and your hopes,
Your green lights and surprise butterflies,
Your crimson cheeks and starry eyes,
Your favorite weather and song and movie
Dear You,
Have a great day today.

So many teens, including me, struggle to accept that we deserve good things in life. We're so self-depricating, and often believe our peers should be happier than us for useless reasons. I wrote this poem because I want to help others tell themselves they deserve happiness, by them telling themselves indirectly. You are "whoever." I am "whoever." We all deserve to have good days!
