The Amazon

November 19, 2019
By Anonymous

Branches scorch and turn to dust

all throughout the Amazon

From grass to bush, from bush to tree,

so stealthily it goes

Burning viciously and untamed

the land eventually turns dark.

Birds flee this man made monster

that intrudes upon their home

Firm laws that once protected

now remain undermined

As crackling flames spread like wind

at the hands of its producers,

People all around make loud noises

and the environmentalists frown

But they are much too late,

the sparks were bombs exploding for miles

leaving a trail glowing in dark light,

marked by sorrow and fear

Each second we hold our breath

Because, after all,

We cannot breathe without our lungs.

Dear Teen Ink,

The Amazon, is a freeform poem about the recent Amazon fires that have been burning down the rainforest and the effect that it has on those close to it.

I am a senior at Seattle Academy, located on capitol hill. I have taken many writing courses all throughout highschool and I am currently in a Creative Writing Class. Other than writing I enjoy drawing and playing the piano. My poetry is another form in which I present my art.

Thank you for taking the time to read my submission, I hope to hear from you soon.

SIncerely,

Indie
