I Sit and I Stare
I sit and I stare,
Watching the sun move across the sky,
Like the hands of a clock,
Showing the passage of time.
As the light moves,
I notice the trees.
The colors are changing,
From greens to browns,
From browns to nothing,
Showing the passage of time.
Things are always changing,
And like the leaves on the trees,
And the sun in the sky,
It will always go back to the way it was.
I listen to the sounds in my earbuds.
The songs I hear remind me of a different point in my life,
Like a time capsule being uncovered for the first time.
Showing the passage of time.
I look at the sun,
As it moves lower and lower,
I look at the sky,
As it gets darker and darker,
Showing the passage of time.
I look at my arms,
Coated in goosebumps,
The hairs sticking up like the thorns of a cactus.
It’s getting dark, with dark comes the cold,
So I wrap up in a blanket to keep in the warm.
I sit and I stare,
I listen and I think,
About the sun and the trees,
The night and the cold,
And I watch time go by.
