The Ines
Read between the lines
Make sure sh*t aligns
Don’t let societal norms make you feel confined
Your dream hourglass figure, shouldn’t be the first thing on your mind
Oops, I didn’t mean to rhyme
Sometimes my words just bind and on paper they intertwine
But it is these faint little letters, that keep me from going blind
I’ve learned to stay on my grind, for poetry was all I could find
Society attempts to make me feel enshrined, but sadly that’s not how I was designed
For my passion can never be defined
I once thought that if I couldn’t catch up, then I’d get left 10 steps behind
Then my life got realigned and social conscious was reassigned
My light could finally shine, I couldn’t be undermined
The superficial feeling of being on “Cloud 9”
My horrible thoughts could finally be picked apart, I could unwind
PTSD never makes headlines
S*** I am no mastermind, for there is truth within these lines that couldn’t even be underlined
My hearts’ been sidelined, by the rest of the humankind
S***, I can’t just hit rewind, and when I speak they say whine
When I’m ready, they have no time
Dang maybe I’ll never get signed, my cards always declined
The taste of my blood, sweat, and tears onto which they dined
Never returned a textbook in my life, and still haven’t paid the fines
I’d like to say that I’m kind, or maybe even opine, that I could read through the lines
And that I don’t let societal norms make me feel confined,
Or that my dream hourglass figure isn’t always the first thing to cross my mind
Well it looks like I meant to rhyme, cause if not I'd just be lying.

"The Ines" came about in my creative writing course when I had the idea of writing a piece that had every line or almost every line with the same rhyme ending on each line. Henceforth came "The Ines."
