Extraterrestrial
It had been a cosmic explosion
A blast of light in their dark worlds
Scorching the space around them
But after it was done
it left nothing
Nothing but the darkness
That existed before
And as they laid under the starless sky
a failed attempt to reconcile
Minds lost in a vast Abyss
Questioning and Wondering, Pondering
About what’s above
For what secrets are hidden away
In the dark crevasses of the universe
What stories remain untold
Entire lifetimes being forgotten
Two bodies side by side
eyes cast upward staring, unfocused
Minds busy with the endless possibilities
For what secrets are hidden away
In the dark crevasses of what’s next to them
A bright moon reflects the light
Of a dying sun
The distance between them reflects the state
Of a dying relationship
Two bodies side by side
Closer than the stars above
Inches instead of miles
And yet
They remain more distant than ever
For instead of a lover
An alien was laid next to them
