Showing Pigs
I walk into the show ring,
brush in hand.
I feel eyes looking down at me,
and I keep a firm grip on my whip,
moving my pig, the direction I want it to go,
looking at the judge every few seconds.
It’s down to the final three,
I’m still in the ring.
The waiting is intense.
It’s down to the final two now,
I’m still in the ring.
I glance at my competitor.
Every voice in the ring, is drowned out,
by the chatter in the audience.
This is it.
The judge glances at me,
and then at my competitor.
I start to feel nervous,
but it fades when the judge shakes my hand
to congratulate me.
I hear loud cheers fill the space,
and I’m filled with excitement
as my picture is being taken.
I walk out of the show ring,
filled with pride,
feeling accomplished.
Ribbon in hand,
my day is complete.
