larva
the boy in the back, by the lemon picture frame
i’m pretty sure he’s a larva
his lashes are silver and he’s two layers of skin
(yeah, I’m positive now, he’s a larva)
his clothes are baggy and his hair is shaggy
and he hasn't a care in the world
a face dotted with cherry sprinkles
and tufts of sheeny fur
look, now
he’s cocooning
hiding those off-white bones away
to avoid the scarring judgement
from the butterflies of today
who knows we’ll see him again
the boy by the lemon frame
maybe he’ll have blinding wings
or he’ll fly straight into a flame
now, we wait to see I guess
until after a caterpillar’s greatest test
