She was seduced with the lure

Of the humble reward

Willingly she fluttered into the cage

An iron prison with a slot

For the key, he held in his palm

She flew around hysterically

Claustrophobic with the box she was put into

No simple escape

She performed any task asked

Followed every order habitually

Yet she still fluttered

In the same space littered with toxicity

An attempt to free herself

She clipped her wing on a sharp edge

Blood sputtered profusely

From the heart of the wound

Weakened she fell

Looking up at the walls enclosing her

But her efforts went unnoticed and

With the passing of time

She attempted to fly again

Staggering from one edge of the cage to the next

Unbalanced and uncertain

She still flies around in that cage

No chance of escape

From he that holds the iron key
