She stands in the shower
Water rushing down her face
Flooding the curves of her body
The suds of soap washing
Residue from the day
The stringy hair sticking to her wet skin
Droplets gathering in cracks and crevices
Tiny clear spheres atop smooth skin

Overcome with the pressure of the showerhead
The troubles on her mind
The steam gathering around her head
She slowly sits down in the water
Circling around her feet
Inch by inch
Vertebrae by vertebrae
Her spine curves with the sadness
The emptiness she feels alone

She feels at peace
Safely surrounded by the warm water
Her back pressed up against the cool tiles
She relaxes her eyes
Bows her head
And stands up to restart
The day again
