The TV
Turn on the TV
And you will hear
A wave of jumbled words that instill fear
Turn on the TV
And you will see
Vivid images that tug at your heartstrings
Turn on the TV
And you will taste
Salt from the tears running down your face
Turn on the TV
And you will smell
The burnt damage caused by an artillery shell
Turn off the TV
And you will feel
A sliver of hope
That can create a better world

This poem combines the harsh realities of world affairs with the concept of hope. I often watch the news and while current events sometimes create despair in me, I remind myself that everything isn't doom and gloom as seen on television. Only by turning off the television can you create a positive change.
