You Can't Pick Your Parents
My father’s tedious, troubling tendencies wore off on me each year.
Seventeen now, I’ve grown past being self conscious.
One day I was younger, smaller, and less mature.
I felt like an imbecile when I was twelve.
Thirteen brought junior high.
Fourteen I struggled in school.
Fifteen brought me close friends.
Sixteen I obsessed over cleanliness.
I frantically made sure everything was perfect.
I see myself behaving like my dad more every day.
The older I get, the more my tedious, troubling tendencies show.
