Time
What is the time, Mother?
Time to leave, child.
Why to leave, Mother?
For my time here is short, child.
Where are you going, Mother?
Next to Papa, child.
But Papa's dead, isn't he?
No one ever leaves, child.
But if he's dead, that must mean–
It's time to leave, child.
Another day, I asked her,
What's the time, Mother?
Time to fly, child.
Why to fly, Mother?
For your time has begun, child.
Where will you be, Mother?
In your heart, child.
Why in my heart, Mother?
No one ever leaves, child.
But if you're not here, that must mean–
My time is over, child.

I wrote this poem when I was around eleven for a poetry competition. It's still stuck with me after all these years. I guess you could say this is about the innocence of children and loss. The two characters in this poem don't say much, but the child is the one who asks all the questions, much like how young children usually act. There's no specific setting, so you can use your imagination here. I like to think that this is set during a war. You might think this is set in modern times. It's really up to you.
I hope you enjoyed it.
