Where I'm From

I am from the North.

From the greenest of forests and bright blue Great Lakes.

I am from leaving at dawn to staying out until midnight.

From dim street lights to moon lit darkness.

I am from a dim city where every color blends into another.

From rushing crowds and traffic to empty sidewalks and roads.

I am from wanting to stay at home and watch Sunday morning cartoons.

To wanting to leave and go anywhere but home.

I am from being out of town to go up north to the woods with endless trees.

To wanting to be on a white sandy beach by the ocean.

I am from having to ride a bike to talk to my friends.

To being able to text anyone anytime.

I am from wanting the same games as everyone else.

To wanting to have completely different clothing than everyone else.

I am from everything being in 50 pound textbooks.

To having all my homework on a laptop.

I am from having a weekly allowance for cleaning.

To having a job that pays biweekly.

I am from longboarding long paved roads.

To skating torn up back alleys in between abandoned houses.

I am from living in a four bedroom brick house.

To living in a four family apartment made of crumbling brick.

I am from having food made for me.

To having nothing but empty pockets.
