Where I'm From
I am from tattered blankets and hollow homes
From trash bags and shoes with no laces.
I am from cheap, barely livable
And filled with packed belongings
i am from withered roses
Whos petals beg for water.
I am from one tattered, stuffed cat and a little hole-riddled blanket.
From Miller and paris
I am from drug addictions and running the streets
And from leaving with no warning
From breaking the hearts of loved ones.
I am from "Jesus loves you, even when mommy's gone"
I am from Teresa and Brad
From dry ramen noodles, and stale crackers.
From a broken woman who gave birth to broken children
And from a family shattered
Goodwill clothes and empty bellies
I am from these moments of a sad existence
From another broken woman who gave birth to me, her broken child.

This was an assignment for my junior english class. We were given a prompt and told to make it our own. Instead of doing what most people did, I took it and truly made it my own.
