Thankful
I’ve lost 5 of the 9 I let in,
One to an illness she can’t control nor cure
One who hungers yet she doth not feed
One who lives on an endless beach
One to her jealousy and hate
Like the memory of them, the past may not
Speak for a day, for a week but one night it
Comes at that moment when the skeletons
In the closet doth creak, and the loveless
Organ in the floorboards doth beat
These are the moments I fear the most because
No distraction keeps it back, those thoughts of
All my past regrets, that it, my truest fear, my own
Thoughts.
Those who stayed around are like me, like the others
Who left. Broken, yet they don’t dwell on, they move on
Or they solve their problems, they
One of beautiful golden hair who speaks only the truth
One a door in which no keys fit no matter how right they seem
One whose love is not bound by sea nor land
One whose anger may get her into a spot where only violence is the answer
To them, those who stayed I am thankful, for without them
Where would I turn when the loveless organ burst for the
Floorboards and the skeletons pound upon my bones
To them, those who stayed I am thankful, for without them
Where would I be today, tomorrow, next month?
