A Cold Basement
I feel kind of chilly as we sit in the basement
My heart almost aches
At this weird arrangement
I put my head on his shoulder
looked into his face
His arm wraps around me
In a tighter embrace
I stand up
My back cracks
I stretch my arms to the floor
I long to go back
But this can’t go too far
So I pull my sneakers on
And walk out of the den
You know that this won’t truly work out
Stuff like this never does, in the end

The poem is about my best friend and I, and something that happened between us last January.
