Words Can Hurt
Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But words can never hurt me.
Words can hurt,
They can pierce your skin,
Working their way closer to your heart,
Stinging shrapnel of hate.
They borrow deep,
Deeper than any bandage can cover.
Words can weigh you down,
Can cut you down,
Can destroy you.
Words can be kind though,
They can be loving,
Caring,
But in the wrong hands,
they can be as destructive as a war.
But gentle arms,
Can cure a heart,
Poisoned by bitter words.
