It’s a chilly and starry night.

A cold breeze gently kisses my face to free the warmth on my cheeks.

A rush of nostalgia runs along for I am wondering about the Starry Night.

I look up,

Wishing to see the glowing star trails as they all come together.

But,

The stars are silent,

The sky is boundless and dark,

The tints of light are never everlasting.

Everything is scattered.

Everything is alone.

But the truth is, there is never real loneliness in the world.

Everywhere is a sky and every one of us is a star.

When the lights are gone,

the auditorium is the night sky, empty and mysterious.

Then someone turns on their flashlight,

Raises it in the air,

and the light never goes off,

Just as our love never ceases.

Then there are more stars joining,

Together we ignite the dark space between us,

Together we sing the song,

And together we make a cosmo.

At that moment, we are not alone.

When the lights are gone,

The cemetery is the night sky, solemn and desperate.

Then a lantern turns on,

Raised to the sky,

And the light never goes off.

Just as diseases never take anyone away,

And forever peace rests in us.

Then there are more lanterns rising,

Together we set despair on fire

Together we light up our hope.

And together we made a heart from our bones.

At that moment, we are not alone.

When there are no lights and no air,

The universe is the night sky, infinite and full of wonder.

Then the light turns on in my house,

to my neighborhood, to the tallest skyscraper,

And to the whole country.

The lights drive away the evil,

And brightens up the incredible future.

Then other lights turn on in the rest of the world.

Together we are connected,

And together we make the whole universe glow.

At that moment, no one is alone.

Look at the night sky above your head,

The stars are scattered but unified.

They burn with passion and love,

To show that they are not alone,

And we are not alone.

Everywhere can be a night sky,

And every one of us can be a star.

The author's comments:

Whenever you are looking up to the sky, did you ever wonder what is the secret behind those stars? The famous painter, Van Gogh, did, for he drew the world-renowned art piece: Starry Night. This poem, inspired by the painting, correlates the far distance between each star on the sky with the distance between each person in today's world. People may feel that they are aloof from the society and they are secluded. However, absolute loneliness is never true. Whenever and wherever you are, remember you being a star. People are always there, awaiting for you, to light up the world. Everywhere can be a night sky, and everyone can be a star.
