Official Teenager: From Audra Lord
Thirteen and tired
Of forgetting how to breath
Using eight body washes to still
Find a pimple but
My girl doesn’t care
I love the way she
Brushes her hair
She could be gone tomorrow
Her father going too far-- bruises getting to deep
While my mommy
Lies alone in her room
Suppose I fail my classes
Science is easy but English
Doesn’t understand me
My friends see the naive me
Shape me to be one way
I want a fresh canvas
For my Valentines gift
With paint I can’t afford
While my mommy
Lies alone in her room
How can I still
Be so heavy
Why did they choose me
For the punching bag
Why did she save me
Is this all just a dream
Am I someone else's nightmare
Which day is date day
How do I make her happy
While my mommy
Lies alone in her room.
