All Dogs Go to Heaven
All dogs go to heaven
That is the saying
But why do they have to leave so soon?
She was a beautiful brindle and white
With kind eyes and a warm smile
And would curl with me up on my bed
She was there when I was afraid of the dark
Ad finally allowed me to sleep peacefully
He was just a tired old man
Who once ran off to deliver someone else’s newspaper
Maybe he was mean and a little nasty
But it was obvious the age was seeping into his bones
He spent his golden years in the sunlight
Peacefully resting on a cot
She was taken too soon
He lived out a long life
But one thing they had in common
More than anything else
Was that they were a good dog

The dogs in my family have always been a major part of my life. Mostly because I have had to help with the birth process of puppies, but also because they are lifelong friends. When we were given the "Things Lost" poetry prompt, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to write about the two most memorable canine friends I had.
