And more like a strangely familiar tomorrow

What is the truth?

But the words that wash over my skin

The chilled blood

Pumping through my veins

The wind, rippling up my spine

What is the truth?

Behind every time

I interlaced my hands

in yours

Every kiss, touch, I love you

What is the truth?

But a string of words

Twisted together

At the tip of your tongue

For your own entertainment

What is the truth?

But your own conscience

Protecting yourself

Protecting me?

What is the truth?

But a small nagging thought

At the dark hours of the night

(And is it the same in the day too?)

That keeps your eyes open

And my mind wandering

What is the truth?

To a liar?

To a cheater?

To a human?

What is the truth,

But a way to protect others

From the harm you may cause

Is the truth just a way

To shield our loved ones

From the monster

That is

Us?

It is the truth

When both sides perish

When your heart drops,

When your hands go numb,

that is when you know

It is certainly,

Entirely

True.

and you expect me to trust you?

The author's comments:

When writing "the harsh reality," I was inspired by the first and last lines in the poem "On writing" by Horence McGinn in her book Blood Trail.

"the harsh reality" was written about a cheating past lover. In the poem I continually ask for the truth, hoping for the honesty hidden behind his constant lies.
