I fell twice

Not a hit the ground running sort of fall

But a fall that knocks the breath out of you

A fall that shatters all of your bones

But doesn’t kill you

No matter how much you wish it would

I fell twice

Not a get back up again fall

But a fall that keeps you

A fall that feels like you are sinking

But it isn’t quicksand

No matter how much you wish it was

I fell twice

But I am alive

And I’m not falling again

The author's comments:

I have struggled with mental health issues throughout my life. Writing poems has been my outlet for what's going on in my head. This poem "Twice" is about the two lowest points of my depression, but I still got up and carried on. My hope is that this poem inspires other people going through the same thing to continue on and get back up again.
