Summer Mornings
Bug spray stings the inside of my nose making my face scrunch up in the center
But at least we’re almost there
The headlights of the truck flood the muddy terrain ahead of us
We sit in the back
The boards rattle noisily between us with every bump
We’re falling asleep
I can see it in your eyes and you can see it in mine
Our eyelids are almost too heavy to hold open
Our hands are still purple from the black caps we picked yesterday
We spend our summer mornings the same way
Everyday
