I Am From
I am from bare feet
From grass stains and skinned knees
I am from the country side
Windy, open, free
I am from the swing-set
Which launched me into the air to touch the sky
I am from camping and lakes
From cousins and more cousins
I’m from s’mores and glow-stick parades
And from campfires and childhood stories
I am from fun and laughter
From Disney and Pixar movies
I’m from Johnny Test and Scooby-Doo
From iCarly and Victorious
But, most of all, I’m from mom and dad
From trips to the gas station for packaged donuts
From movie nights with popcorn
And gazing at the stars

I wrote this for an assignment in my Creative Writing class. We were talking about poetry and what kinds of things it can mean. This poem was supposed to talk about where you are from, but in a more abstract sense. Meaning, not the city or state, but of fond memories or traditions that you hold near to your heart.
