Grandma
I scrape my knee, i run to you
I can't make food but am hungry, i run to you
You can't understand me but i understand you
Sab kuch thik hai beti
I come home from school sad, i come to you
I forget to do chores, i come to you
You can now understand me and I understand you
Sab kuch thik hai beti
I try to tell you about stuff, you can't understand
I try to remind you who i am, you can't understand
You barely understand me but I understand you
Sab kuch thik hai beti
You fall and call out for me, I run to you
You can’t understand the doctors, I translate for you
You can’t feed yourself, I come to you
You sit there not sure what is happening, in an unknown world
But when I come to you
Everything is okay

This poem is about my grandmother who doesn't speak English and has Alzheimer's, she took care of me a lot when I was a child, and would always say the phrase “sab Kuch thik hai beti” which means everything is okay my dear. I wrote this poem when sitting in her hospital room after she had a huge surgery that worsened her alzheimers making her regress into a childlike state so that now I have to take care of her.
