The Essence of Poets
Poetry is scattered ink.
Separated by spaces,
Meant to fill a space
We cannot see.
It’s the space between our heart strings,
The words of the thing beating within our chest.
The steady rhythm of our fingertips,
Laying out our deepest regrets.
For some it may be a release,
Like the clouds sent from a fire.
Or maybe it’s the energy itself
That sends you latching onto a pen
To carve out your feelings
And lay your mind to rest.

This piece, for me, captures the reason on why I write poetry. Poetry is not only my escape, but my empowerment. I get to decide how I will tell my deepest regrets, all with the help of a pen.
