Ode to an Egg

Eggs

So soft and succulent

The way they crack

And spill their insides on the searing hot pan

The yolk

So yellow and tasty

The way it sizzles as you pour it on the stove

And the way it runs down your plate when you cut it open

The Egg white

Delicious but no so healthy

Staring at the pan so I can see your translucent body turn white

But gawking at the smell of you when you go bad

The shell

The first thing I see in the morning

When I take you out of the carton it seems like you are eager to say

“Hello, please eat me”

Consuming you brings joy to my day

Though I am sad that you could not stay

But you make me happy when you are paired with you brother, bacon.

I know that you would have wanted it this way

Goodbye old friend

I wrote this poem thinking about the 5 senses and my favorite food. I let the words flow through my fingers as I wrote this poem.
