an inevitable fall

i look up into the perfect blue sky.

the world is so green, so beautiful

as if perfection is real.

my mom and dad walk

happily hand in hand.

little legs climb up the tree

as fast as they can,

but they never reach the top.

i slip and fall

towards the bottom.

my head hits the black pavement

and i cry

till i can’t see anymore.

my eyes slowly open.

i blink as fast as i can.

my mom and dad walk

as far away from each other

as i am from the top of the tree.

i hear shouting and yelling

my head pounds with pain.

i can’t understand why mom is crying.

dad drives away.

little legs run away as fast as they can

but they aren’t fast enough.

i look up into the stormy gray sky.

the world is so dull, so sad

and all is lost.

This poem is a childhood memory of mine, and I wanted to share it through a free verse style.
